Bara Wetherell is born and raised Rock Hill, SC and a graduate of Rock Hill High School. (Go Bearcats!) She also graduated from Winthrop University with a degree in Marketing. Bara has over 18 years of experience in marketing, community service and non-profit work. She is the Assistant Vice President of Creative Services at Founders Federal Credit Union. Her little girl, Stella, is currently attending Ebenezer Avenue Elementary.

Stan has been a resident and business leader in the Rock Hill community since 2001. Together with his wife (who taught in the Rock Hill School District), Stan and Holly have proudly seen their three kids thrive in the public school system. Stan’s passion for organizational improvement is a natural fit for this stage of the Foundation’s growth.

Beth has lived in Rock Hill since 2016. She is married to Chris, who also volunteers with Back the Pack. They have two teen boys who keep them busy! When she’s not driving someone somewhere, attending one of their school/sporting events or facilitating a class at work, she’s passionate about working with various volunteer organizations. Beth started her work with the board as a volunteer for Back the Pack. She is passionate about the program as she’s seen its impact in the schools and has worked to ensure processes are in place to keep it sustainable.  She has served as the volunteer coordinator for Back the Pack since 2021.

Leigh is a South Carolina native who moved to Rock Hill to pursue her education at Winthrop University, where she earned a degree in Special Education. After graduating, she started teaching self-contained special education until the arrival of her first child. Over the years, Leigh has actively contributed to the Rock Hill community, recognized as a Rock Hill Schools Volunteer of the Year in 2014. Faith and family are most important to her; she is married to her high school sweetheart and a devoted parent of two children who have thrived within the Rock Hill School District—one who graduated from Rock Hill High School and now attends the University of South Carolina, and another who is currently a student at Rock Hill High School. Leigh has served on the boards of several non-profit organizations dedicated to enhancing education in Rock Hill.

Laney is a citizen of the Catawba Nation, a resident of Rock Hill, and a mother of one lovely daughter. She graduated from Rock Hill High School, and then Winthrop University with a degree in Business Administration/Economics. She currently works as the Director of Community Services for the Catawba Nation. She has a passion for community-building and non-profit service, including current service with the Rock Hill Schools Foundation Board, the Gravity Center Foundation programs committee, and the Freedom Walkway Committee. Laney is passionate about equity and inclusion, actively engaged communities, and sustainable community development.

Colleen and her husband, Tim Butz had been residents of Rock Hill for over 16 years when she was recruited to be the Broker-in-Charge of the Allen Tate branch from which she retired in 2017. Tim is the Bailiff of the City of Rock Hill Municipal Court. Colleen is involved in our community and serves on many non-profit organizations. She also has served her industry for over 30 years by volunteering for her local, State and National associations in leadership roles. Tim and Colleen’s combined 5 children are grown but their 7 grandchildren (living in Fort Mill & Wilmington) keep them busy.

Tracy moved to Rock Hill in 1985 to attend Winthrop University where she received a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, master’s degree in Reading Education, and certification for Early Childhood Education. She taught at Oakdale Elementary School for 30 years and served as an adjunct professor for Winthrop University. She had the honor of being chosen as Rock Hill School District Three’s Teacher of the Year and went on to become an Honor Roll Teacher for the state of South Carolina. She is a National Board Certified teacher and a recipient of the national Milken Educator Award. Her two sons were born and raised in Rock Hill attending Richmond Drive Elementary, Sullivan Middle and South Pointe High School.

The Foundation of Rock Hill Schools means a great deal to Tracy as she received grant funding for projects that enhanced her classroom. She also saw how her students benefited from Back the Pack. She began volunteering for The Foundation after retirement to give back to the community of Rock Hill Schools.

Alice is a Rock Hill native and graduate of Northwestern High School, she works for Williams & Fudge as Director of Foundation and Community Support. All 3 of her children attend Rock Hill Schools in the Language Immersion Program. Alice and her husband both have education degrees making education an important part of their lives. She is passionate about God and her family, especially being a mom raising her children to love Him!

Brian is a Rock Hill native and a graduate of The Citadel. He is the Director of Business Sales for Comporium Communications and enjoys being involved in the community.  He is married to another Rock Hill native Cece Moseley Hovis, and they have 3 boys Grayden, Briggs, and Jackson.  He enjoys spending time at the lake, the beach, playing golf, and fishing with his sons.

Derrick Lindsay is a Rock Hill native, who has displayed tremendous dedication and commitment to improving the communities of Rock Hill for over 20 years. He has been fortunate to elevate his passion for helping others by being elected to the Rock Hill City Council, representing Ward 1 and is currently the Mayor Pro Tem.

After graduating from Rock Hill High School, Derrick begun his career with Showmars Restaurant. Having a career spanning 29 years, Derrick has worked hard to become the Operator for both Showmars Restaurants in Rock Hill. Throughout the years Derrick has had the opportunity to participate in numerous non-profit and community organizations such as the Kiwanis’s Club of Rock Hill for 15 years, Operation Help One Another for 14 years, the Weed and Seed program, the JAG program (RHHS) 7 years, The Boys and Girls Club and now The Foundation for Rock Hill Schools.

Derrick has been recognized in the community for his leadership and acts of kindness. He is the recipient of the NAACP W.R. Laney Award, the recipient of the Rock Hill School District Outstanding Business Partnership Award, and the Outstanding Volunteer Award. Freedom Temple Ministries also awarded Derrick the Freedom Award for fostering economic development.

Derrick has a true love and passion for serving, investing in, and improving the community and the city of Rock Hill. Derrick operates with the belief that: “To whom much is given, much is required.”

Derrick is married to Michelle Lindsay and has a daughter Shadrecka Lindsay.

Roseanne has made Rock Hill her home since 1996. She is a former high school Art Educator in Rock Hill Schools. Since leaving the art classroom, Roseanne has continued her passion for teaching art and encouraging creativity through teaching private art lessons and summer art camps. She has a passion for helping women as a personal stylist for cabi, a woman’s clothing company. Roseanne is married to Kenny and they have two children who attend Rock Hill Schools. While family life and busy schedules keep her on the go, Roseanne also enjoying exercising, boating with her family and all things creative!

Anne is a Rock Hill, SC native and graduate of both Northwestern High School and Winthrop University. She is a Vice President, Commercial Banker with First Community Bank. With over 20 years of community banking experience Anne knows what it takes to build and foster relationships to help local communities thrive. Anne has two children in the district, one at Rock Hill High School and the other at India Hook Elementary.

Jimmy, a Rock Hill resident since 2018, has been contributing his expertise to the region’s construction landscape since 2000, leading and supporting various high-profile projects. A graduate of Lancaster High School and Clemson University, where he earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees, Jimmy brings a solid foundation of knowledge and experience to his current role as a Senior Associate Architect with LS3P. Outside of work, he and his wife, Susan, enjoy staying active with their five grandchildren, who keep them on their toes and bring joy to their lives.

Carter, a lifelong resident of Rock Hill, South Carolina, has been deeply connected to the Rock Hill Schools community, graduating from Rock Hill High School. His commitment to leadership began early, serving as a Student Ambassador for The Foundation for Rock Hill Schools. His dedication led him to continue his involvement after graduation, now serving as the Director of Technology for The Foundation.

Carter is currently pursuing a degree in Computer Information Systems at the University of South Carolina, with plans to attend law school upon completing his undergraduate studies. He aims to combine his knowledge of technology with legal expertise to build a career that bridges both fields.

Outside of his academic and professional aspirations, Carter is passionate about community service. He is actively involved in various local nonprofits and continues his service work while attending school through Shandon Baptist Church in Columbia.

Lindsay Machak is Executive Director of Communications and Marketing for Rock Hill Schools.  Her career includes a host of communications experience including time serving as a reporter for the McAllen (Texas) Monitor and The Times of Northwestern Indiana, an associate editor for Hanley Wood Business Media, Community Engagement Manager for the Maryland Food Bank, Communication Manager for Live Baltimore, and Outreach & Marketing Director for the Waldorf School of Baltimore.

At the Waldorf School of Baltimore, Lindsay Machak was instrumental in spearheading communication efforts both internally and externally through effective media relations and public relations campaigns as well as digital and in-person marketing campaigns to promote education to families and stakeholders.  She also served as the chairperson of the diversity, equity, and inclusion community work committee.

During her time with Live Baltimore, she promoted the city of Baltimore through effective communication strategies including public relations, social media, digital marketing, and direct mail pieces for programs and fundraising as well as creating a summer apprentice program to foster career-mentoring for youth through the Baltimore City Youth Works program.

Ms. Machak has achieved numerous journalism awards including a 2015 ASBPE national silver award for news analysis, 2015 ASBPE national bronze award for special section, and 2015 ASBPE regional gold awards for news analysis and special selection, among others.

Megan was born and raised in Rock Hill, and is a proud graduate of Northwestern High School. Her parents are both retired educators from Rock Hill Schools, and she is grateful for the full-circle opportunity to be back in her hometown, raising her own children in her favorite school district. Megan graduated from Florida State University and taught middle and high school in Jacksonville, FL. She then ventured into the world of nonprofits, which is how she met her husband, Ed, who is also a nonprofit executive. Megan and Ed are playfully competitive about serving their respective organizations, and they enjoy sharing ideas to gain inspiration. When they are not talking shop, they stay busy with their 4 children – a middle schooler at Sullivan, 2 elementary students at Cherry Park, and 1 preschooler who is eagerly awaiting his turn to join his siblings in “big school.” Megan has recently earned her Certificate in Education Foundation Leadership from the National Association of Education Foundations.
